Self-Regulated Learning in SmartArt (SmartArt) Project

The universities claim that the contribution of their new products supports the traditional virtual campus and the development of Self Regulated Learning skills.

The Erasmus SmartArt Project, Self Regulated Learning in SmartArt, led by the University of Burgos and focused on the dissemination of European cultural heritage, has held its sixth transnational meeting in which progress has been made in the sharing of intellectual enrichment products, freely accessible, which are being developed by the various members of the strategic partnership.  

The University of Burgos, together with the University of Oviedo, has presented the implementation of the project the inclusion of two new courses within the intelligent virtual classroom (VLE). One focused on learning the physics of movement coordinated by PhD. Miguel Ángel Queiruga Dios and the other oriented towards learning concepts of developmental neuropsychology at an early age, coordinated by PhD. María Consuelo Sáiz Manzanares. In addition, these courses are accompanied by guidance guides for teachers, which will be included in the results section of the project website.

On the other hand, the University of Minho presented at this meeting an enrichment product focused on the learning of biotechnology concepts in university students through the SmartArt learning methodology and the University of Valladolid showed an enrichment product based on the development of a training course on the SmartArt methodology for Secondary Education teachers, which has also been applied with university students in different subjects. 

This course is being implemented with great success on an open access virtual learning platform developed through the WordPress content management system. The statistical results obtained regarding its use and the opinion offered by the university students through a questionnaire show that the contribution of this tool, as a support to the traditional virtual campus, represents an enrichment of the teaching-learning process and the development of Self Regulated Learning skills.

Finally, the Enterprise Paragon presented an intellectual enrichment product focused on the learning of Medieval Art in Malta and aimed at children aged 3-10 years old. The aim of this product is to foster the learning of history through digital resources. Specifically, the materials refer to the development of Medieval Art in two Maltese localities Rabat/Mdina and Zejtun.

Three multiplier events

The European SmartArt project is also making progress in the planning of three multiplier events, which will take place in July 2022 at the University of Burgos, the University of Minho and Malta. The ultimate goal of these events is to disseminate the intellectual products developed among different professionals (psychologists, pedagogues, technology professionals, teachers, etc.) interested in learning about the latest achievements in the use of digital techniques for innovation in the teaching-learning process.

The coordinator of this project, Consuelo Saiz Manzanares, pointed out that the project is progressing in a highly satisfactory manner, as more intellectual products have been produced than initially planned in the project report. She also highlighted the relevance of the Learning Activities training sessions held last July and coordinated by the UBU. Specifically, the enrichment projects that are being implemented at the University of Valladolid and the University of Minho, which were developed during the training sessions at the University of Burgos.
